Jessie Veeder has always found a certain kind of magic in the buttes and coulees of her family’s ranch in Western North Dakota where she grew up. The middle of three daughters born to a third generation rancher and musician, Jessie has been singing and writing about her love of the landscape and rural lifestyle since she was given a blank book at the age of eight and told to write it all down, an effort that led her to record four original albums, the first at age 16, and tour the country talking and singing to audiences about the remote home she loved.

Throughout her life Jessie has had a few constants-- her love of place and family, her love of music and her love for the boy who grew up to become her husband. These things fuel the stories she’s been telling in songs and on stage for nearly 20 years.

Since 2010 Jessie and her husband, Chad, have worked alongside her father as the fourth generation stewards of the 100-year-old Veeder Ranch. Upon moving back to the ranch, Jessie began photographing her home and writing about what it means to come back to a place that raised you on her popular blog, “Meanwhile, back at the ranch…”. Her work landed her a job writing a weekly column for statewide newspapers where her straight to the heart reflections prove that out here on the North Dakota plains, every story is dictated by the change of a season or a shift in the weather. 

Coming Home is a visual journey through the seasons that includes beautiful photography, poetry, recipes, stories and memories carefully handpicked from Jessie’s collection to tell the story of why the prairie continues to pull us home.
